| BH 94 (4/2013): (from a huge 3.98 ha parcel.) Initially there is a touch of reduction though aggressive swirling liberates the admirably pure, fresh and elegant nose of a plenitude of floral notes along with a ripe mix of red berries and iron, stone and earth hints. There is good power and excellent complexity to the wonderfully well-delineated medium weight flavors that possess fine phenolic ripeness and superb energy on the focused, linear and stunningly long and saline-infused finish. This is a seriously impressive effort that is built to age. Drink 2025+. Outstanding! |

BH 93-95 (1/2012): (from a .53 ha parcel) A fresh but quite restrained and noticeably cool nose of herb and stone-infused wild red berry fruit aromas precedes impressively intense, powerful and agreeably rich medium-bodied flavors that ooze a fine minerality on the wonderfully detailed flavors that explode on the mouth coating and overtly stony finish. Like the Suchots, this is one impressive effort with Outstanding upside potential though note that at least 15 years of cellar time will be required. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! VM 90-92 (1/2012): (from 55-year-old vines picked six days after the Vosne-Romanee premier crus in 2010): Good full, bright medium red. Aromas of small wild dark berries, licorice, coffee and sweet oak perked up by pepper and herbs. Fat and sweet, but without quite the definition of the Reignots, Clos Vougeot or Echezeaux. With its creamy, candied qualities and herbal edge, this suggests a wider range of fruit ripeness than most of the other 2010s here. A bit clenched on the back. |

WS 89 (3/2013): Exhibits purity to the cherry, raspberry and floral flavors, with a juicy texture and bright structure. Balanced on the firm side, offering a lingering, spicy finish. Best from 2015 through 2022. 667 cases made. BH 87-90 (1/2012): Here too there is discreet wood influence setting off the otherwise ripe and spicy red and blue pinot fruit that complements well the equally spicy, rich, supple and round middle weight flavors that possess a seductive texture as well as a mouth coating, dusty and well-balanced finish that displays a touch of austerity. Drink 2016+. VM 87-89 (2/2012): Good deep medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of black cherry, violet and licorice. Sweet and supple but reduced, with a leathery quality in the mouth and a slightly tart berry quality. The chewy finish features chocolatey oak. This needs a racking. |

| BH 93 (4/2012): ( from a 4 ha parcel.) Noticeable though not overt wood influence sets off a very ripe nose composed of liqueur of plum, cassis and wild raspberry aromas. There is excellent richness to the round and relatively powerful medium weight flavors blessed with an abundance of dry extract that buffers the otherwise very firm, long and serious finish. This is also notably austere and extremely compact at present and as such it seems reasonably clear that it will not be a good candidate for early drinking. Drink 2020+. Don't miss! Outstanding! |

| BH 94 (4/2012): (from Domaine-owned fruit in two similarly sized parcels - one at the top and the other at the bottom of the slope.) This is really quite aromatically refined, indeed the expressive nose is highly perfumed and speaks of floral, plum and black cherry scents layered with a subtle earthiness. The sense of refinement continues onto the palate as the focused, intense and sleekly muscular flavors evidence good power on the balanced, long and only moderately austere finish. As Clos de Vougeot typically goes, this is a very refined example. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

| BH 94 (4/2012): A brooding but impressively complex nose features notes of red currant, plum, earth and plenty of that Corton sauvage character. The textured, intense and broad-shouldered flavors possess excellent mid-palate concentration with fully mature structural elements. There is ample buffering sap, which is important as one would reasonably expect, this is a big and sleekly muscled wine with an explosively long, linear and overtly austere finish. The potential here is mostly impressive though note that plenty of patience is requisite. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

| BH 92 (4/2012): A classic and exceptionally fresh Vosne nose is replete with a wide variety of Asian spice scents that include anise, clove and cinnamon on the notably ripe cassis and black cherry aromas. There is a highly seductive quality to the mouth coating, velvety and suave middle weight flavors that exude a fine dry extract on the silky yet firm finish. This is not quite as complex as the very best of the Bouchard 1ers but this has its own considerable appeal. Drink 2020+. Outstanding! |

BH 92-94 (1/2012): (from .48 ha parcel of 65+ year old vines). This chameleonesque terroir can be either mostly Nuits or mostly Vosne but in 2010, it really does seem to be a beautiful hybrid of the two as the spicy and ripe dark berry fruit aromas also display a hint of the sauvage along with noticeably earth nuances. The flavors however are much more Nuits in character as they are rich, powerful, dense and concentrated with excellent phenolic maturity to the structural elements. This broad-shouldered effort possesses fine balance and I very much like the overall sense of harmony plus it should reward 12 to 15 years of cellar time. Drink 2022+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! VM 91-93 (2/2012): (from 68-year-old vines featuring a high percentage of tiny millerande grapes): Good dark red with ruby tones. Black fruits, violet and strong oak notes of bitter chocolate and coffee. Fat, thick and powerful, with terrific depth of material and enough acid/tannin structure to give shape and freshness to the creamy middle. The blackberry and licorice flavors carry through on the long, rising finish. |

| BH 89-92 (1/2012): (from a .60 ha parcel of 40+ year old vines.) A relatively elegant nose features notes of red currant, blue berry and violets that merge seamlessly into round, pure and refined middle weight flavors that possess both good concentration and fine structural element ripeness, all wrapped in a mouth coating, firm and long finish. I like the balance here and despite the firmness of the tannins, this isn't rustic. Drink 2018+. |

| BH 92 (4/2013): This possesses really lovely aromatic complexity with a hint of the sauvage to the plum, dark berry fruit and pungent earth scents. There is good volume and richness to the opulent and suave medium-bodied flavors that display relatively fine detail on the firm and ever-so-mildly rustic finish. VM 92-94 (2/2012): Good deep red-ruby. Black cherry, licorice and violet on the nose; smells deep. Very ripe and sweet, with firm spine to the flavors of black fruits and violet. The substantial sweet, fine tannins really melt into the finish. Conveys an almost chocolatey ripeness while maintaining excellent verve. BH 91-94 (4/2012): (from an enormous 4.8 ha parcel with vines ranging from 50 to 65 years of age). A beautifully layered nose of purple fruit, violets and soil tones leads to exceptionally rich, velvety and sappy medium weight plus flavors that brim with dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the very firm but not hard tannic spine on the dusty and mocha-infused finish. This is a big but reasonably refined and well-balanced Epenots that is built for the long haul. Drink 2025+. Sweet Spot Outstanding! |

| VM 93+ (8/2012): The 2010 Beaune Clos des Mouches, one of the Drouhin's flagships, is impossibly young. It needs several years, at a minimum, to shed some of its baby fat. Clos des Mouches has a great track record of aging, and while I rarely take the risk of cellaring white Burgundy these days, if I were to cellar a handful of 2010 whites, Clos des Mouches would be one of my choices. Today, it is the wine's exceptional textural elegance and precise, saline minerality that make the deepest impression. Antonio Galloni. |

VM 91 (3/2013): Good bright, full red. High-pitched aromas of tangy red and darker berries and rose petal, complemented by lower-toned earth and smoke notes. Boasts terrific volume for village wine: dense, salty and soil-driven, with raspberry fruit complicated by earth and minerals. Really stimulates the taste buds on the smooth, long, lightly saline finish. Terrific village wine. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is striking. Attractive floral aromatics meld into expressive fruit in this sweet, perfumed wine. Dark red cherries, freshly cut flowers, mint and hard candy wrap around the sensual, fragrant finish. This is a very classy showing. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. BH 89-91 (1/2012): (from Champs Perrières in Brochon.) This is also exceptionally fresh and complex and the composition of the aromas is much the same as the Aux Echezeaux except perhaps here they are ever-so-slightly more elegant. The textured, intense and solidly well-concentrated medium weight flavors possess real verve on the delineated, balanced and focused finish. This also is an excellent villages that is built to age and is also worthy of your consideration. Drink 2018+. Outstanding! |

There is Outstanding intensity, richness and concentration to the big-bodied mineral-driven flavors that also display an abundance of palate coating dry extract on the tremendously long finish. | BH 92-95 (4/2012): A discreetly floral red berry fruit nose is also composed of a variety of other seemingly evanescent nuances that include wet stone, forest floor, rose petal, sauvage hints and damp earth. This impressive complexity is continued by the rich, intense and driving broad-shouldered flavors that are an exercise in restraint, all wrapped in a balanced, austere and incredibly persistent finish. This is one intense and muscular effort yet all of the size and weight manifests itself harmoniously, indeed there is absolutely nothing rustic about this. In a word, wonderful. Drink 2027+. BH 87-89 (1/2012): (from 4 different parcels scattered above and below the 1ers and the blend of vines averages about 35 years of age). Here too there is mild reduction that renders the nose difficult to read. There is by contrast good freshness and punch to the supple middle weight flavors where the supporting tannins are unusually fine, especially for the appellation, all wrapped in a lingering finish where only a trace of rusticity surfaces. A good if not distinguished villages. Drink 2017+ VM 87-89 (2/2012): Bright medium red. Slightly reduced aromas of black fruits, licorice and fresh herbs. At once supple and precise, with juicy cherry fruit dominating. On the lean side but offers very good focus and cut. The black cherry quality carries through to the firmly tannic yet pliant finish. WA 87-88 (2/2012): The 2010 Nuits St. Georges (from tank) reveals dark shades of fruit with more depth than the Bourgogne. It comes across as fleshy and round. Hints of tar, licorice and violets add complexity on the finish. This is a very pretty villages. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020. |

WA 91-93 (2/2012): The 2010 Nuits St. Georges Clos des Porrets Saint-Georges is the first wine in this lineup that shows the structure of the vintage. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, graphite and black cherries are woven into a textured fabric of notable class. I especially like its energy and drive. A precise, finely-chiseled finish rounds things out nicely. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025. VM 91-93 (2/2012): Good full red. Redcurrant, raspberry, crushed stone and smoky minerality on the rather serious nose. At once silky and tangy in the mouth, with raspberry and stone flavors dominating. A step up in breadth and dimension from the foregoing wines, offering lovely inner-mouth perfume. Very representative of the south side of the village: "never with explosive fruit early," notes Gouges. Has the firm tannin/acid structure to age. This large Clos comprises 3.8 hectares of vines. BH 90-92 (1/2012): (a 3.5 ha monopole with 30+ year old vines). Reduction dominates the nose. By contrast to the funky nose, there is a lovely inner mouth perfume to the precise, intense and vibrant middle weight plus flavors that possess good volume. There is admirable persistence on the quite firm finish that is at once pure and actually rather refined, which is not always the case with this wine. Worth a look. Drink 2022+. |

| BH 91-94 (4/2012): (the Richebourg parcel now totals .6 ha after it was combined with the vines that formerly belonged to Michel Gros, which he agreed to exchange so that he could keep the Vosne 1er Clos de Reas as a monopole of Domaine Michel Gros. The Richebourg vines have been replanted 3 times and they are now 15, 25 and 70 years of age). An exuberantly spicy, fresh and ripe nose speaks of red berry fruit liqueur, plum, anise and clove plus discreet mineral nuances. The powerful and sleekly muscular flavors are quite firm yet there is a certain generosity present that finesses any sense of toughness. Indeed this is relatively forward for a young Richebourg. While there is fine depth and length present, this strikes me as more of a very good rather than genuinely Outstanding vintage for this wine. Drink 2025+. |

VM 96+ (3/2013): (13.8% alcohol "with a bit of chaptalization," according to winemaker Charles Van Canneyt): Deep, full red. Very recent but pure nose eventually reveals scents of musky wild red fruits and smoky, stony minerality; a real essence of Burgundy. Deep and thick on the palate; dense with extract and utterly smooth too but with explosive energy suggesting that this wine will repay long aging. Finishes with Outstanding rising smoky persistence and powerful stony minerality. These 2010s, bottled in February of 2012, display extraordinary digestibility. Stephen Tanzer. BH 95 (1/2013): (from vines that abut those of the Domaine de la Romanee-Conti in Richebourg proper.) Here the reduction is present also but at least there is some spiciness in evidence. There is excellent richness and muscle to the big-bodied and impressively vibrant medium weight plus flavors that possess fine mid-palate concentration before culminating in a palate staining and magnificently long finish. There is power here but overall this is more a Riche of elegance than brawn. I very much like the potential but caution compels me to point out that the reduction is a concern though again with this wine it seems less like a permanent problem. Drink 2025+. |

| BH 92 (4/2013): There is a discreet application of wood to the elegant, pure and lightly spiced nose of layered black raspberry and cassis nose that is also barely visible on the mineral-driven, intense and tension-filled medium-bodied flavors. There is excellent volume and plenty of mid-palate stuffing because while this is certainly a wine of finesse, it does not lack for character or seriously impressive persistence on the gorgeously balanced if distinctly austere finish. A wine of class and grace that will need plenty of cellar time as it has already begun to shut down. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

| BH 91 (4/2013): Very discreet wood sets off exuberantly spicy aromas of plum, cassis and black raspberry liqueur. There is an ultra-sophisticated mouth feel to the silky-textured medium-bodied flavors that are blessed with so much extract that they culminate in an incredibly suave yet balanced finish that is built to age. There is a very mild touch of backend dryness that is likely due to the bottling and will probably round out in time but it does cause me to score this slightly lower than I otherwise might have. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

BH 94 (1/2013): (produced from two large parcels of differing vine age - one that is approximately two-thirds of the blend and is now 45 years of age and a second, smaller group of vines that is approximately 20+ years of age; vinified with 100% whole clusters.) A highly expressive and very broad nose of superb aromatic complexity that includes earth, game, spice, red currant, plum, violets and a hint of the sauvage. The round and supple flavors possess outstanding detail and while the complexity doesn't quite match that of the exquisite nose, it's not far behind and this culminates in a beautifully balanced and harmonious finish that delivers striking persistence. I also had a chance to retaste the 2009 and it is bigger, richer and more powerful while the 2010 is much more of a wine of finesse and refinement. In a word, beautiful. Drink 2022+. VM 93+ (3/2013): Good bright, deep red. Very closed but pure and stylish nose hints at cherry liqueur and spices, with elements of mulch and pepper emerging with air. Dense, tactile and large-boned, but with its flesh somewhat suppressed today. Finishes saline, concentrated and thick, with substantial granular tannins. This needs at least six to eight more years in bottle to expand, and may well deserve an even higher score by 2020. Stephen Tanzer. |

VM 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Clos Saint Denis is all about textural finesse and effortless grace. Layers of sweet perfume emerge from this harmonious, understated Burgundy. White flowers and licorice add dimension and volume on the finely knit finish. Antonio Galloni. BH 93-95 (4/2012): ( from 90+ year old vines.) Mild reduction makes it difficult to say much beyond that the underlying fruit appears ripe. The rich and exceptionally stylish flavors combine finesse with superb authority as there is a real palate impact that is emphasized by the striking intensity. There is a wonderful sense of tension to the mouth coating finish that is shaped by dense but ultra-fine tannins. In a word, magnificent. Drink 2025+. Don't miss! |

There is an intense minerality to the beautifully well-detailed and energetic flavors that possess superb depth of material and Outstanding complexity before terminating in a persistent and mouth coating finish that delivers 'wow' level length. This is a stunner of a Les Cras; in fact it's absolutely textbook and I really like the ample amount of underlying tension. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! |

BH 94 (1/2013): ( the Liger-Belair vines in this small vineyard run from top to bottom whereas the others are situated in segments; Cathiard is on top, Grivot in the middle and Arnoux at the bottom.) A wonderfully seductive and extravagantly perfumed nose of spice and black fruit liqueur adds considerable interest to the intensely mineral-inflected middle weight flavors that possess a highly sensuous mouth feel, all wrapped in a transparent, tension-filled and impeccably well-balanced finish that delivers truly superb length. This is an exceptionally classy and refined effort and if you can find it, buy it. Drink 2022+. Outstanding! VM 93+ (4/2013): Good deep red. Deeper-pitched, more earth-dominated aromas of dark raspberry, meat, leather and smoke. Intensely flavored but youthfully tight, with soil and game flavors currently dominating primary fruits. In a distinctly more meaty and less obviously sweet style than the Petits-Mont but with superb energy on the back. From a mix of 90-, 60- and 40-year old vines. WA 93-95 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Reignots wraps around the palate with layers of fruit in an understated style that is quite appealing. The Reignots is all about detail and nuance. Raspberries, crushed flowers and sweet spices waft from the glass on the soft, sensual finish. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. |

VM 93+ (4/2013): Good deep medium red. Musky red cherry, smoky minerality and a medicinal nuance on the nose. Sweet, large-scaled and concentrated but without quite the class of the Boudots or Clos Vougeot. Powerful, medicinal and very backward, finishing with youthfully tough tannins and palate-staining salty and crushed stone flavors. Great potential here but I would not want to drink a bottle anytime soon. BH 92-95 (1/2012): This is slightly riper and decidedly more complex than either of its two Corton stable mates with a broad ranging nose of plum and dark berry fruit that is liberally laced with sauvage and earth notes. This is a big wine with rich and very concentrated large-bodied flavors where the supporting tannins are buried beneath an impressive reserve of dry extract, all wrapped in a long, deep and powerful finish. Along with the Echezeaux, this may be the most overlooked wine in the Meo portfolio which I find quite curious given how consistently it delivers. Drink: 2025+ WA 92-94 (2/2012): The 2010 Corton Clos Rognet is a bit richer, rounder and sweeter than the Perrieres. It fleshes out nicely in the glass with sweet dark red cherries, flowers, minerals and spices. This is a relatively delicate, feminine Rognets. The fruit gains considerable volume through the finish without ever losing its underlying minerality. This is first-class juice all the way. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. |

VM 96 (4/2013): Bright full, medium red. A real wake-up call on the nose, offering sappy black and red cherry fruit aromas complicated by crushed-rock minerality and notes of rose petal and violet; an essence of Burgundy. Then generous and dense but weightless on the palate, and less austere today than the Clos Vougeot and Corton Clos Rognets, showing salty, chewy flavors of cherry, stone, flowers and minerals and conveying a powerful impression of sappiness. Finishes with explosive palate-staining energy and captivating high-pitched perfume. A great vintage for this consistently Outstanding premier cru, and in need of 10 to 12 years of cellaring. These 2010s have it all. WA 94-96 (2/2012): The 2010 Vosne-Romanee Les Brulees boasts incredible finesse and inner perfume in its expressive dark red cherries, flowers, mint and spices. This is much more about sheer textural finesse and elegance than anything else. Layers of fruit continue to flesh out on the expressive, radiant finish. There was quite a bit of millerandage in this parcel. The Brulees has plenty of weight but no heaviness. This is a superb showing. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. BH 93-95 (1/2012): There is enough reduction present to make it quite difficult to assess the nose though there is a wonderfully exotic quality to the inner mouth perfume emanating from the gorgeously opulent and mineral-driven flavors. I very much like the strong sense of underlying tension and while Meo's Brûlees can often be an overtly robust wine, the 2010 version is a really quite refined though make no mistake as there is good power and plenty of underlying muscle. In short, this is a stunner of a wine. Don't miss! Outstanding! Drink: 2025+ |

VM 98+ (4/2013): Deep, dark, saturated red. Knockout nose combines black cherry, black raspberry, minerals, graphite and licorice. Like liquid silk in the mouth, conveying great thickness of texture without any weight. Noble, utterly vibrant wine with near-perfect balance and a finish that mounts for two minutes or more. A sappy essence of Burgundy. Mugnier calls 2010 "Burgundy at its best," and this wine makes his case. BH 97 (1/2013): Here the broad ranging nose is actually similar to that of the Amoureuses but it's both cooler and even more restrained. The penetratingly mineral-driven large-scaled flavors are an exercise in refinement with tremendous depth of material that pushes the very firm tannic spine to the background on the palate staining, linear and stunning intense finish. This magnificent effort is regal and aloof at this point and is conceding little in terms of accessibility yet it's irreproachably well-balanced which should permit this magnificent effort to develop slowly but surely over the next 15 plus years. The 2010 Musigny is yet another in a long line of great vintages of this wine from Mugnier. WA 96-98 (2/2012): The 2010 Musigny is breathtaking. It is at once weightless yet full of flavor and dynamism. There is marvelous tension and sheer energy in the fruit, while certain elements of virility - especially in the tannin - seem to develop as the wine sits in the glass. Like all of the Mugnier wines, the Musigny is really a wine built on textural finesse and a certain elusiveness that asks more of the taster than it offers. It represents the height of sensuality and unknowable beauty in Burgundy. In many ways Mugnier’s Musigny resembles Domaine de la Romanee-Conti’s Romanee-Conti. No matter how much time I spend with the wine there is always more to discover. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045. |

VM 92+ (3/2013): Very deep, bright red. Sappy black cherry, raspberry, cola and licorice on the nose, plus a whiff of animal fur. Big, deep and chocolatey, with serious depth of black cherry and dark berry fruit. The big Nuits-Saint-Georges tannins are sexed up by high-toned oak spices on the impressively long finish. Jacques-Frederic Mugnier punches down the cap late in the fermentation, when the juice is almost dry and the skins have softened, an approach that he believes results in a steadier uptake of sugar in his wines. Stephen Tanzer. BH 91 (6/2013): An all but invisible touch of wood sets off pretty and cool aromas of citrus rind, dried floral nuances and a hint of minerality. There is good richness and plenty of verve to the well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess a sappy mouth feel on the mouth coating and bone dry finish. This is really quite good and while not a wine of particular refinement, there is excellent character and persistence. I like this as it's refreshing, well-balanced and has plenty of depth to it. Worth considering. Drink from 2015+. Outstanding! |

| BH 95-97 (4/2012): (the aggregate size of this holding is a whopping 3.4 ha and Ponsot is easily the largest holder in Clos de la Roche). In stark contrast to the expressiveness of the Clos St. Denis, this is almost mute and even aggressive swirling liberates only the briefest glimpses of wild red berries and earth notes. There is superb size and weight to the imposing and overtly muscular flavors that also enjoy an incredible amount of dry extract that confers a supple and seductively textured mouth feel to the highly concentrated mid-palate. The presently buried tannins are intense and markedly firm though not hard on the explosively long finish that seems to go on and on. This should be something very special if given sufficient time to reach its apogee. Drink 2032+. |

| BH 92-95 (1/2012): Deep ruby. A superbly multifaceted nose offers up nose of notably ripe black berry, plum and earth as well as hints of animale and underbrush. There is outstanding power to the very concentrated and serious large-scaled flavors that are underpinned by a dense layer of dry extract that does not completely buffer the exceptionally firm tannins as they too coat the mouth. This is an old school Clos de Vougeot that is positively Cistercian in its finishing austerity. I very much like this but I would only suggest purchasing it to those who have the forbearance to wait as this will definitely not be an early drinker. |

An ultra-elegant and exceptionally pure nose of wild raspberries and both red and black currants introduces seductively textured and silky middle weight flavors that are utterly delicious. This should be great in time as it has everything that it needs. Drink 2025+. |

Wonderfully sappy and alive in the mouth, with Outstanding energy and tension to its dark fruit, floral and minerals flavors. Conveys a powerful impression of dry extract, not to mention an exhilarating balance of sweetness and acidity. Noble tannins coat every square millimeter of the palate on the building, vibrant aftertaste. A great vintage for this consistently Outstanding bottling: this may yet merit an even higher score 12 or 15 years down the road. |

VM 93 (3/2013): (75% new oak): Good dark red. Ripe, vibrant nose offers kirsch, redcurrant, cedar and a whiff of black pepper. At once silky-sweet and tangy, with lovely inner-mouth energy to the fine-grained red and darker fruit flavors. Notes of violet and minerals emerge with air. Finishes broad, lively and long, with harmonious acidity and ripe tannins giving the wine solid structure for aging. More refined than the 2011 version. BH 92 (1/2013): (from 80+ year old vines.) An attractively layered and enveloping nose of black cherry and black raspberry is set off by subtle earth, spice and wood nuances. There is real verve to the wonderfully fresh and seductively textured flavors that exude a fine minerality on the balanced, delicious, dusty and long finish where a discreet if not invisible touch of wood appears. I like the balance and depth and the wood will probably integrate in time. Drink 2020+. Outstanding! |

BH 92 (1/2013): I have never been a huge fan of this wine as I often find it to be somewhat coarse, and while always very good, I am rarely moved by it. However, in 2010, as was the case in 2009, this is much better than it usually is with a relatively perfumed nose that includes notes of earth along with the natural sauvage character of the vineyard. In fact there is even a certain elegance to the attractively layered airy and cool red berry liqueur aromas. There is good richness and fine volume to the moderately robust and muscular flavors that culminate in a balanced and linear finish that evidences mild austerity. I quite like this as the tannins are finer than usual and there is a real sense of harmony and completeness. Drink 2020+. Outstanding! WS 92 (6/2013): Starts out tight, with currant, kirsch, spice and earth flavors. Rounds out with a few hours of aeration, offering black cherry and tobacco notes. Balanced, displaying a firm finish for now. Best from 2016 through 2028. 170 cases imported. VM 91+ (4/2013): Good bright, deep red. Briary dark berries, black cherry, menthol and a smoky nuance on the nose. Rich and quite ripe, with deep dark berry and smoke flavors perked up by mint and minerals. At once dense and agreeable for this cuvee. WA 90-92 (2/2012): The 2010 Morey St. Denis Clos de la Bussiere is an explosive wine. Dark red cherries, freshly cut flowers, graphite and mint all take shape in the glass. The Clos de la Bussiere stands out for its energy, focus and length. Persistent saline notes add freshness. | BH 90? (1/2013): Soft wood frames ripe and nuanced aromas of red and dark berry fruit, warm and pungent earth and a discreet hint of game. There is excellent mid-palate concentration and plenty of sap that imparts a velvety mouth feel to the muscular flavors that possess a distinct Gevrey style sauvage character that continues onto the long if mildly rustic finish where a touch of bitterness surfaces. The tannins seem sufficiently ripe so I suspect that the bitterness comes from the wood toast and thus it should dissipate in due time though I have put a question mark after the score for this reason. |
